10-Minute Task?
10.26.05 (8:24 am) [edit]
The 10-Minute Medicine Cabinet Cleanup - How many times have you bought cough drops or cold medicine for the kids only to find when you got home that you already had plenty? Protect your family by taking time to clean out any old and expired medicines. Then take inventory of what's left so you won't buy more of something you already have.

Brightening Your Day By Helping Someone Else
One of the best pick-me-ups for depression is to get your mind off your own problems and do something to cheer someone else up. If nothing else, send a card and make someone else's day a little brighter. When God lays someone on your heart, there's a reason behind it. Pray for them and act on his leading. You'll feel better and so will they. Trust me - it works!

Make Your Own Shampoo!
09.21.05 (2:23 pm) [edit]
You can make shampoo out of soapwort. I have to, as I have a chronic scalp condition which is irritated by some of the stuff that is in shampoo.
All I do is boil up a handful of soapwort root in a pint of water with a sprig of rosemary. Simmer for 5 minutes, leave until cold, then strain. You don't need the rosemary, but it smells nice. You could use another herb, if you like.
Bottle it, and put it in the fridge, it should keep for 2 weeks. To use it, massage ot gradually into your hair, combing it in. It won't foam up much, and it is very watery. Then rinse it off with plenty of warm water. You won't need conditioner, as it is very gentle and won't strip the hair of all of its natural oil. It won't feel squeaky clean like bought shampoo leaves the hair, but it WILL be clean, you have to take a step of faith in it until it is dry. It really is great for flyaway, frizzy hair. You can grow soapwort in the garden, it has pretty pink flowers. more hints and tips @ http://www.learningnewthings.net" title="http://www.learningnewthings.net" target="_blank"http://www.learningnewthings....

This is great information to keep in mind.
Clean Out Your Wallet
We carry around far too much identifying information. You shouldn't be toting your passport, birth certificate, and the credit cards you're not using. (In fact, if you haven't used them in some time, close the accounts.) Most importantly, don't carry around your Social Security card. Why? Your Social Security number is key for an identity thief because it can be used to apply for credit or other loans in your name. There are only a few valid occasions to give it out.
- When you're applying for a job
- When you're doing your taxes
- When you're involved in a stock or other financial transaction
In most other cases, the person asking for the number wants to use it for identification purposes. Ask if they'll substitute for another number instead. Even states that use Social Security numbers as driver's license numbers are often willing to make a switch.

To Lease or Buy?
09.19.05 (8:38 am) [edit]

To Lease or Buy?
A noble question, for sure. But the answer really depends on your situation. Buying is often a cheaper option for the long term. Still, if you like a new car every couple of years, you may be better off leasing. Here are four questions to help you make your decision:
1. How many years will I have this car? If the answer is three or less, you're better off leasing. At four you could go either way. More than four, buy.
2. How many miles do I drive annually? If it's more than 15,000, you ought to buy. Leases usually figure on mileage of 12,000 to 15,000 a year. Drive more than that and you'll pay an additional 10 to 15 cents per mile. Ouch!
3. Do I take good care of my car? Be honest. If you're the kind of person who never misses an oil change and avoids curbs at all costs, you'll be fine when it comes time to return your leased car. But if not, buy. Otherwise, you could find yourself looking at a hefty bill for "excessive wear and tear."
4. Do I use my car for business? If yes, you may want to lease.

Frizz Remedies
Humidity is the number one reason for frizzy hair, but there are other reasons your hair may frizz even when it's not humid...
You may be handling or touching your hair too much. This can cause hair to expand during the day. After shampooing, squeeze out excess moisture and gently towel dry. Try not to "rub" your hair while you are towel-drying it...
When you blow-dry your hair, use a round brush and make sure your hair is damp, not soaked when you start to dry it. Make sure your hair is completely dry when you are done, otherwise, any dampness left will only cause your hair to frizz as it dries...
During the day, resist the urge to brush your hair and try using a wide-toothes comb instead to neten your hair if it needs it. A better bet would be to use your fingers gently to smooth any hair that may need touched up...
Silicone seruns will help, as will pomades, styling waxes and any other product that will smooth the hair down. A leave-in conditioner can be your best friend when trying to tame frizz... http://www.learningnewthings.net" title="http://www.learningnewthings.net" target="_blank"http://www.learningnewthings....

Each month 2 goals will be listed and some tips to help you get to them. Here's your goals for November..
1. Start your Christmas shopping list now so you can have gifts before the mad rush at the last minute. Magazine subscriptions should be ordered now so the recipient doesn't have 2 months for their promised gift
2. When you buy a gift, immediately fill out the tag and add to the the pocket in your Christmas planner so you don't duplicate gift buying as you plan.
